Marie Mitchell

Biography

Marie Mitchell, a WA Peel Region mixed media textile artist from the Canadian West Coast, integrates education and environmental/social justice advocacy into her work. Her art reflects her commitment to the environment's vulnerability. Inspired by Australia's biodiversity, her work "Starting the Cycle: from Dead Dirt to Living Soil" was a finalist in the Northern Beaches Environmental Art & Design Prize and won the South Perth Emerging Artist Prize in Textiles. Her international exhibits include "Walking the Refugee Road: Forced to Flee" in the USA & UK and the "Disconnected Habitat" series at the "Scythia" exhibition in Ukraine. Her residencies at North Metro TAFE and Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah, resulting in the "Wetland Stories" exhibition. Her works are held in private collections in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, and the USA.
